The president of Uber Technologies has stepped down from the ride-hailing company, less than seven months after joining. Jeff Jones’s resignation follows a spate of other high-level departures, with engineering executive Amit Singhal asked to resign last month amid a sexual-harassment allegation, and vice president of product and growth Ed Baker leaving this month. Security researcher Charlie Miller also stepped down this month. The reason for Jones’s resignation was not immediately clear, but many are questioning whether it indicates leadership trouble at the very top. Uber Chief Executive Travis Kalanick has come under scrutiny in recent weeks after a former employee claimed sexual harassment at the company was rampant and unchecked, an allegation that triggered an internal investigation. Shortly after that allegation was made, Kalanick issued a public apology after he was caught on tape yelling at a driver for complaining about cut rates. Jones, who joined the company in August, was widely expected to serve as Kalanick’s No. 2 and oversee all global operations.
