Voting is underway in the U.K.’s general election, with exit polls due to be published at 10 p.m. local time tonight (5 p.m. ET), when voting ends. The election, which has been disrupted by two terrorist attacks that put national security at the center of the battle for votes, was initially seen as a foregone conclusion, with Theresa May’s ruling Conservative party expected to sweep to victory with a hugely increased majority, and her party riding high on pro-Brexit attitudes. However, a series of missteps, policy U-turns, and wooden appearances by May have seen Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn within 7 percentage points of her lead, according to a final poll by YouGov. Analysts continue to expect a Tory victory but the prospects of a landslide have sharply diminished. The results should be known Friday morning, within six to 10 hours of the polls closing.
