U.K. Lawmaker Punched by Colleague

Steven Woolfe, a British member of the European Parliament who was favored to become the next leader of the U.K. Independence Party, was taken to a hospital after he was allegedly punched by a colleague at a meeting Thursday morning. His condition had been reported to be “life-threatening,” according to a former adviser to ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage. “I deeply regret that following an altercation that took place at a meeting of UKIP MEPs this morning that Steven Woolfe subsequently collapsed and was taken to hospital,” Farage said in a statement. “His condition is serious.” Neil Hamilton, a Welsh lawmaker, said Woolfe “picked a fight with someone and came off worse,” hitting his head on a window. In a statement released later Thursday, Woolfe said he is now feeling fine and is experiencing numbness on the left side of his face. “The CT scan has shown that there is no blood clot in the brain,” he added.
