British police arrested a Sun journalist on Friday for allegedly making payments to police officers, the latest arrest in the mushrooming phone-hacking scandal at Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. Jamie Pyatt, 48, the Sun’s district editor, covered the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Milly Dowler for the Sun, the sister paper of the now-defunct News of the World, which closed in July amid the scandal and which News Corp. had insisted was the sole source of the hacking. Pyatt is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with the scandal in which News of the World allegedly made payments over several years totaling £130,000 ($208,000) to corrupt police officers at Scotland Yard for information. Scotland Yard also said Friday that it believes there are 5,800 people whose phones were hacked—2,000 more than previously believed.
