U.K. to Trigger Brexit by March

Begins a 2-year process to leave the European Union.

The United Kingdom will trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which commences the process of leaving the European Union, by March of next year, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Sunday. The two-year process also includes nullifying Britain’s European Communities Act of 1972, May said. “It’s not just important for the U.K., but important for Europe as a whole that we’re able to do this in the best possible way so we have the least disruption for businesses, and when we leave the E.U. we have a smooth transition from the E.U.,” she added. May took over for David Cameron earlier this year after the U.K. voted over the summer to leave the E.U.
