Ukraine President Takes Sick Leave

Best. Excuse. Ever. As his country continues to roil, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich is taking a sick leave, with his deputy health chief saying it is “in connection with an acute respiratory disease accompanied by high fever.” The leave comes one day after Yanukovich forced his country's parliament to pass a conditional amnesty for 100 imprisoned protesters, despite demands from the opposition that the amnesty be unconditional. Kiev has been overtaken by protests, some turning violent, since Yanukovich bowed to Russian pressure and turned down a trade deal with the European Union two months ago.
