Since January of this year, at least 5,576 Iraqi civilians have died in the chaotic violence plaguing the country the UN said on Friday. An addition 11,665 have been wounded. The timeline goes back to January when Sunni insurgents led by ISIS hit Falluja. Over half of the 2,400 people killed in June were civilians. The UN called out "systematic and egregious violations" of international law by ISIS, claiming it executed civilians, carried out widespread sexual violence against women and girls, kidnappings, and assassinations.
