United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was reelected to a second term in a vote Tuesday. Ban, a former South Korean foreign minister, was unanimously nominated by the United Nations Security Council for reelection. He’s set to start his new five-year term in 2012. Although Ban has been called weak and deferential to world powers, he has found success in affecting climate-change policy and supporting the Arab Spring uprisings. Though a left-wing Latin American voting bloc was rumored to be withholding support, Ban won as the sole candidate for the job.
