U.S. Citizens Sentenced to 10 Years in Iranian Jail

Two U.S. citizens have been sentenced to 10 years in an Iranian prison for allegedly cooperating with the United States, according to the Iranian judiciary’s official news site. Iranian-American businessman Siamak Namazi and his elderly father, Mohammad Baquer Namazi, were detained last October by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and later charged and sentenced. The younger Namazi has worked for an oil and gas company in the United Arab Emirates. His father is a former Iranian provincial governor and has served as a UNICEF representative in various countries. The U.S. government on Tuesday afternoon demanded the Namazis' release.
