A U.S. appeals court threw out the first-degree murder conviction of a former Blackwater Worldwide security guard on Friday, Reuters reported. Nicholas Slatten had previously been sentenced to life in prison for his part in the massacre of 14 unarmed Iraqi civilians in a Baghdad traffic circle in 2007. The court ordered that three others convicted in the case be re-sentenced and found that Slatten should have had his own trial so he could introduce evidence that one of his co-defendants was the one to fire the first shot.
