Will this tilt the tables on military invention? President Obama’s chief intelligence officer, James Clapper, said on Thursday that, over the long term at least, Libya’s Col. Gaddafi has plenty of resources to crush his opposition. “Over the longer term…the regime will prevail,” Clapper conceded. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have so far resisted directly aiding the rebels, insisting that any intervention to aid Libyan rebels not be U.S.-led. Meanwhile, Gaddafi forces’ most recent blitz has pushed opposition leaders from the strategic town of Ras Lanuf.
