U.S., Israel Divided on Iran

As Israel considers attacking Iran to prevent it from producing nuclear weapons, the U.S. is arguing that there are other ways to keep Iran from building bombs. Senior U.S. and Israeli officials have made trips back and forth between the two countries to discuss Israel’s plans for military intervention. Israel is concerned that once Iran establishes a “zone of immunity” where it’s protected from military strikes, it will be impenetrable and free to create nuclear weapons. Speaking on behalf of Washington, a U.S. official told The New York Times that other options like shutting off oil revenues or supply sources would be more prudent.
