U.S. Launches First Libya Missiles

Calling the mission Operation Odyssey Dawn, the U.S. launched its first missiles against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Saturday, according to a Defense Department official. The beginning of the U.S. intervention comes just after France jumped in, launching its own strikes against a Libyan tank hours after an international coalition made up of European and Arab countries pledged to take military action against Gaddafi. Speaking from Brazil, President Obama confirmed the intervention and said that the U.S. is working with a "broad coalition" in its fight against Libya's leader. "We will not deploy any U.S. troops on the ground," the president emphasized, calling the strikes "limited military" intervention.
