A successful raid in Syria led to the death of Abu Sayyaf, the Islamic State’s defence minister, and 31 others on Friday. Three other leaders were also killed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It was a rare “boots on the ground” mission, which was a surprising change from the mostly air raids conducted by the U.S. army, and took place at one of Syria’s largest oil fields, al-Omar. Many officials consider it a significant blow to ISIS.
