As oil continues to wash up on the Gulf Coast, the U.S. is baring its teeth at BP, telling the oil giant it has two days to come up with a more aggressive strategy for containing the leak—though it is not clear what will happen if BP does not find a suitable answer. "I am concerned that your current plans do not provide for maximum mobilization of resources to provide the needed collection capacity consistent with the revised flow estimates," U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral James Watson wrote in a letter. He added that he was also concerned that BP’s current approach has few redundancy measures in case equipment should fail. The flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico is estimated at around 40,000 barrels a day. But BP does not believe it will be able to handle that quantity until at least late July.
