Two American soldiers have been accused of raping teenage girls in South Korea, prompting local protests at the U.S. embassy and apologies from U.S. military officials. One soldier is being questioned for allegedly raping a girl in her rented room in Seoul on Sept. 17, and another soldier was arrested on Sept. 24 in a city north of Seoul. Army Brig. Gen. David Conboy, who supervises the U.S. garrison in Seoul, apologized for the “pain” caused by the allegations, and the top U.S. diplomat for East Asia apologized for the "tragic and inexcusable rape that took place about a week ago." The U.S. has 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea.
