Utah OKs the Firing Squad

FLASHBACK

In case lethal-injection drugs run out.

The governor of Utah signed a law allowing the use of a firing squad in the event that lethal-injection drugs are not available. Gov. Gary Herbert had been leaning toward signing the bill as a backup method of execution if “the state is unable to lawfully obtain the substances necessary” for lethal injection 30 days before it’s needed. Utah outlawed the firing squad in 2004, and now becomes the only state in the country to legalize it.
