Virginia state senator Creigh Deeds is in critical condition Tuesday after being stabbed, and his son, Gus, is dead from a gunshot wound. Police said they responded to a call at Deeds’s Bath County home, and Deeds was sent to the University of Virginia Hospital. According to NBC Washington, Deeds's son stabbed his father before turning the gun on himself. Deeds, a Democrat, has served in the Virginia state senate since 2001, and he unsuccessfully challenged Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell in 2009.
