The gunman suspected of killing eight people in rural Virginia surrendered to police early Wednesday at the scene of the shootings. Christopher Speight, 39, has been taken to an undisclosed location to be interviewed on pending charges, police said. The authorities said that Speight knew the victims, whom they are still working to identify, but didn't give more details. Based on the weapons found in his home, police believe that Speight had weapons training. According to CNN, Speight forced a police helicopter to an emergency landing during the search when he ruptured its fuel tank with a high-powered rifle. The incident began around noon on Tuesday in Appomattox, when a severely injured victim, who later died, was spotted on the side of a rural road. Police found seven bodies, both male and female, at a nearby house.
