A U.S. defense official told Reuters that two Russian warplanes flew “simulated attack passes” near a U.S. Navy destroyer on Tuesday. The USS Donald Cook was 70 miles off the coast of Kaliningrad, Russia, when two SU-24 jets flew so close that they created a “wake in the water.” The flight was followed by seven passes by a Russian helicopter taking pictures of the destroyer. A defense official described the Russian move to CBS News as “more aggressive than anything we’ve seen in some time.”
