Village Council in India Orders Rape

According to her family and police, a 14-year-old girl was taken into the forest and raped on orders of her village council. The order came as punishment for her brother’s sexual assault. “We kept begging them. We begged with folded hands but they would not listen. They dragged her away to the forest,” the victim’s mother said. The police say they have arrested two men, the village headman and the husband of the woman who says she was molested by the victim's brother. The brother has also been arrested. The rape took place after midnight Sunday in the state of Jharkand.
