The top seeds for the 2017 NCAA men’s tournament were announced Sunday, with Villanova, Kansas, Gonzaga, and North Carolina coming in first in their respective regions, according to this year’s bracket. The bracket shows which 68 teams were chosen by the selection committee to fight for a national title. The Villanova Wildcats claimed the top overall seed in the East for the third time in the school’s history. They will defend their title Thursday against whoever wins between Mount St. Mary’s and New Orleans. In the West region, Gonzaga may finally have a chance to make it to the Final Four after being picked as the No. 1 seed for the second time in the school’s history. In the Midwest, Kansas took the top spot and will face off against either North Carolina Central or UC Davis, which is appearing for the first time in the NCAA tournament. In the South, North Carolina got the top seed, despite the team’s loss to Duke in the ACC tournament semis. The tournament kicks off Thursday, with the Final Four planned for April 1 and 3.
