Volkswagen’s U.S. boss said Wednesday he was told about the company’s emissions-cheating software early last year. Michael Horn admitted he was told about a “possible emissions non-compliance” in spring 2014, but also that the company’s engineers would work with the Environmental Protection Agency to resolve the issue, according to testimony due to be presented Thursday to a House committee investigating the scandal. Horn said it wasn’t until Sept. 3 that Volkswagen told U.S. officials about the “defeat device” in emissions software in diesel vehicles, which programmed cars to adjust how they run during EPA tests. Horn added he found the scandal “deeply troubling.”
