Walmart confirmed Thursday that it had removed from its Panama City Beach, Florida store a display of Coke cans stacked to look like the World Trade Center, in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks. After a photograph of the tribute was posted to Twitter, the display garnered national attention and mockery. The towers were made from Coke Zero packages and the American flag were made from red Coke cans, silver Diet Cokes, and blue Sprite cans. “We will never forget” read a display banner above the cans. “We hold this moment in our country’s history in the highest regard, and there was nothing disrespectful intended by the display," the superstore said in a statement, noting that the design came from the Coca-Cola supplier and was approved by the individual store’s management.
