WDBJ7 General Manager Jeff Marks said the TV station only received positive references before hiring shooter Vester Flanagan. He also said the station made it mandatory for him to seek help from the employee-assistance program after he was terminated in February 2013. Marks says after Flanagan was fired, there were no warning signs and he didn’t stalk anyone at the station. Employees who encountered Flanagan in public said there were no problems. Marks did concede that it seemed Flanagan annoyed people in the newsroom.
