The first-ever female commandant of cadets at West Point was officially sworn in on Tuesday. Brig. Gen. Diana Holland, 47, is an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran and graduated from West Point herself in 1990. The induction comes one month after the military struck down rules preventing women from serving in combat roles. The academy's superintendent, Lieutenant General Robert Caslen, mentioned other female alumni during the ceremony, including Army Captain Kristen Friest and First Lieutenant Shaye Haver, who became the first two women to receive the coveted U.S. Army Ranger title when they completed their training in August 2015.
