According to an excerpt from Little America: The War Within the War for Afghanistan by Rajiv Chandrasekaran published in The Washington Post, top Obama staff including National Security Adviser James L. Jones sought to fire diplomat Richard Holbrooke. As Holbrooke and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced off against other senior diplomats, the squabbling over political bailiwicks may have cost the White House a chance at forging a peace deal in the war-torn country.
