A “substantial” portion of Britain’s white cliffs of Dover collapsed into the sea Wednesday, according to the Coast Guard. The cliff face shelved off from an area near Crab Bay, and no one was injured. The Dover Coast Guard said a full survey will be conducted to find out exactly how much of the cliff collapsed. While the cause is unknown, experts believe it may have been caused by freezing rain being absorbed into the chalk and expanding, causing it to weaken. This is not the first major rockfall for the famous cliffs, with a notable one occurring just last year.
