The annual Met Gala at the Costume Institute brought out its fair share of dazzle. There was Anna Wintour in a custom-made white Prada column dress, Carine Roitfeld in a black Givenchy suit coat, and Tom Ford in an unsurprisingly perfect tuxedo. But the party is called the “Oscars of the East” for a reason: here’s a night where, unlike the Academy Awards, guests aren’t afraid to showcase a little bit of sartorial derring-do. And dare they did. Some of the dresses were, well, so out there that they resembled another event airing Monday night: Dancing With the Stars on ABC. There was some jazzy white fringe, a wax-exposing slit, and a floral number worthy of the cha-cha.
