Why Chick Lit?

GENDER LINES

The scientific explanation for Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda.

It turns out the corner of the library known as “Chick lit” is wildly popular for a reason. A new UK study has found that reading falls along gender lines: about 50 percent of women are “page-turners,” compared to only 26 percent of men. And of those men who read, they are more likely to take longer to finish a book, and read fewer as a result. In the words of Ian McEwan: “When women stop reading, the novel will be dead.”
