Officials in Texas may be facing the worst fire crisis in the state’s history: On Sunday, firefighters battled more than 18 blazes roaring across the northern and western parts of Texas. The Forest Service said relentless heavy winds and dry weather could spawn a new wave of fires that would rival the 2009 fires that scorched 147,942 acres. So far, 61,500 acres and one home have been destroyed. Officials in Texas and Oklahoma are preparing for things to worsen, but no new fires were reported Sunday.
