Research in Motion is heralding a “significant” improvement in BlackBerry service after a hardware outage Wednesday cut off huge numbers of users from email and messaging. Is it too late, though, to save the company? Gizmodo says the damage has already been done: “RIM's reliability was pretty much all it had left. … “[T]he fact that this was a systemic failure and not third-party havoc should be positively chilling. They don't know what happened. They don't know how to fix it. They just know that it's their own fault.” Making matters even worse for the company, the outage happened on the same day that Apple released iOS5 and positive reviews came out for the iPhone 4S.
