It was Windsors all round today as William and Kate boarded a classic 1960’s open-backed Routemaster London bus today with none other than everyone's favorite caricature of the British working class spirit, the Carry On and EastEnders’ actress Barbara 'Babs' Windsor.

Will and Kate met staff and volunteers from The Royal British Legion London Poppy Day Appeal, ahead of Remembrance Sunday (the British equivalent to Veteran’s Day) and then went and helped sell the paper poppies that are the symbol of the charity at Kensington High Street tube station, the local stop for Kensington Palace.

Kate wore one of her trusty stand-bys, a full-length LK Bennet coat, in red, natch, and demure black heels.

The couple were swamped with phone-waving well-wishers and extra police had to be called in at one stage as numbers swelled.

Kate spoke with Corporal Steve Johnson, an RAF recruitment officer from Newcastle, who is busking at Tube stations across London to raise funds for the appeal.

'Kate asked what kind of music I'd been playing,' he said. 'She asked me to play but then said don't because it's too busy.'

William and Kate’s light hearted and jovial appearance was in noted contrast to Prince Harry’s attendance to duty at Westminster’s Field of Remembrance where, with Prince Philip, he laid wreaths in honor of fallen soldiers in a sombre ceremony.
