A woman convicted of negligent homicide for a 2004 crash was exonerated after General Motors said the car she crashed may have malfunctioned as a result of its faulty ignition switch. Candice Anderson was convicted of negligent homicide after her fiancé died in a Texas crash when she was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion. She served five years of probation, paid $2,600 in fines, and performed 260 hours of community service. On Monday, she was declared innocent by a judge. Anderson’s lawyer released a letter from GM attorney Richard Godfrey, which stated: “The crash involving Ms. Anderson is one in which the recall condition may have caused or contributed to the air bag nondeployment in the accident.” GM spokesman Jim Cain said the company “will cooperate fully by providing information the court requests to assist it in making a decision in this matter.”
