Shot and thrown in a canal by her family for marrying the guy she loved, 18-year-old Saba Mqsood of Pakistan managed to survive and climb to the bank where passers-by rushed her to a hospital. Maqsood married her neighbor against her family's wishes, so her father, uncle, brother, and aunt shot her twice, threw her in a sack (thinking she was dead), and tossed her in a canal. "She is a brave girl. She came out of the canal and approached a nearby fuel station from where a rescue team rushed her to hospital," said a local police official. The latest attack comes shortly after another woman, Farzana Iqbal, was killed by family members for a love marriage. In 2013, 869 cases of honor killings in Pakistan were reported but the number is believed to be much higher.
