Workers Died in Hilfiger Factories

After a horrific factory fire in Bangladesh claimed 29 lives last year, an ABC News investigation has found that many of the big American brands whose clothes are made there have gone right back to business as usual. Now one of those brands, Tommy Hilfiger, has announced that it will be the first company to speak up for better conditions. Phillips-Van Heusen, the Hilfiger line’s parent company, has been one of the companies most resistant to attempts to reform labor conditions, according to labor-rights groups. Now, PVH had pledged $1 million to stricter regulations to protect workers. Five hundred Bangladeshi garment-factory workers have lost their lives in fires in the last five years.
