We have already seen for ourselves why Justin Bieber is not a fan of revolving doors, but we've yet to understand his preference for non-moving stairs. Although a busy 16-year-old pop star like himself might prefer to get places faster—one of the perks of the 19th-century invention originally called "revolving stairs," which we now know as the escalator—Bieber seems to enjoy the extra exercise the original motionless vehicle allows. "I like escalators cuz when they brake they just become stairs," he tweeted to his fans in March. Maybe he'd also like revolving doors if they broke and just became doors.

He may still be two years shy of the voting age, and he's not American, but Bieber is straddling the Democratic and Republican political lines. "I'm not sure about the parties," he told Rolling Stone. "But whatever they have in Korea, that's bad." Perhaps the anti-Kim Jong Il pop star reached this conclusion in July when 4chan, an imageboard website known for its online pranking, persuaded impressionable young Beliebers to vote for North Korea as the country he should visit on his "My World" tour in an unrestricted website contest. 4chan's encouragement moved the communist country all the way to the top spot in the competition and forced Bieber's camp to make a statement claiming it was a spoof and "not a legitimate contest." We're still waiting for the Supreme Leader to trade in his permanently bad hair day for Bieber's signature 'do or sing and dance along to "U Smile."

As many of the male cast members of Glee noted in this week's episode, "Bieber" is practically synonymous with the "hoodie." And when he isn't covering up his trademark side-swept, silky chestnut locks with a hood, he tends to opt for a stiff-brimmed Yankee cap, with its original sticker included. The idea that someone would tell Bieber—or anyone else, for that matter—that they could not don the aforementioned items is simply unacceptable to him. "Was just in a classroom that had a sign ‘saying no hats or hoods'...I ripped it down," Bieber tweeted last February.

Considering his biggest hit song is called "Baby" and his mother had him at age 18, one could have guessed 16-year-old Bieber's beliefs on one of the most controversial political issues in America. "I really don't believe in abortion," he told Rolling Stone. "It's like killing a baby?" When pressed about abortions after rape, Bieber replied, "Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that." And we're back to pre- Roe v. Wade.

In his apparent effort to follow in Bono and Angelina Jolie's footsteps, Bieber offered some unsolicited advice about how to heal the world and make it a better place. "If you see someone struggling, just like carrying groceries or something, you can just help them out," he told Moviefone. "Just like, if there's a food drive at your school just bring as much as you can." For inquiring minds, Bieber's edible treat of choice is Sour Patch Kids. Perhaps soon Bieber and Michelle Obama can discuss the obesity epidemic.

It takes so little to warm a Bieber's heart… or behind. The 16-year-old superstar traveled to Japan last spring and enjoyed the glory of heated toilet seats. "only been here a little while and Tokyo is already 1 of my favorite cities," Bieber tweeted. "Exclusive kicks everywhere..great food..and heated toilet seats." Clearly, he couldn't get enough of the invention, telling his Facebook followers months later, "In Japan...land of the amazing heated toilet seats....ready to start the day." After making it public that he likes his buns toasted, we can only imagine how many of these Bieber received.
Bieber may be leaning rightward with his antiabortion stance, but health care is a different story. "Canada's the best country in the world," he told Rolling Stone. "We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills. My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home." Canadian-style health care might also help cure the epidemic the singer himself created—commonly known as Bieber Fever.

Though Bieber has had older women from Kim Kardashian to Rihanna declare their love for him, he is not one to give it up without that four letter word—l-o-v-e. The 16-year-old "One Less Lonely Girl" singer, who recently has been attached to 18-year-old Disney star Selena Gomez, talked about sex openly for the first time recently. And while he didn't take the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, or Britney Spears route of claiming abstinence until marriage, Bieber did tell Rolling Stone, "I don't think you should have sex with anyone unless you love them." This brings new meaning to his hit song with Usher, "Somebody to Love."

…And off once a plane's cruising altitude is reached. Although Bieber doesn't appear to have taken the Josh Duhamel approach—refusing to stop texting when asked by airline personnel—he is not pleased with electronic devices being off during a flight's ascent and descent and on during the remainder of the flight. "why on a plane they always make u turn ur electronics off when taking off and landing," Bieber tweeted. "isnt it more dangerous when ur up in the sky??" The Federal Aviation Administration says the devices emit radio waves that could interfere with the plane's navigation equipment and that most crashes occur during takeoff and landings. As a spokesperson for the Air Transport Association explained, at these times, "because the airplane is closer to the ground, there is no room for error, and airlines take every precaution to ensure that no interference occurs." Airports and aircraft must be particularly confusing for young Bieber, who, one can only guess, is the type to walk beside the moving sidewalk; unless, of course, it breaks.

The teen idol was mocked for days for not knowing what " German" was—turns out it was all the result of a heavy Kiwi accent—but that misunderstanding may just scratch the surface of his colloquial challenges. Bieber joined fellow Canadian Pamela Anderson and reality stars Khloe Kardashian and Bethenny Frankel to help give PETA some star power, though fortunately, he kept his clothing on. With a December ad ("My World Includes Compassion for Animals. Yours Should Too") and a January campaign, ("Animals Can Make U Smile") Bieber spoke out on behalf of deserted domestic animals everywhere. "I really encourage going out to an animal shelter," he said in a statement. "Or a place where you can get a dog who has been abandoned or doesn't have a home." Or… a shelter?

Bieber has the most-watched videos on YouTube, nearly a million more Twitter followers than President Obama, and one of the top movies at the box office. But the bright lights of Los Angeles have been a big adjustment for this former small-town Canadian boy. From his mom nearly being trampled at a mall appearance to his sweet 16 gift—a Range Rover—Bieber has seen the ups and downs that being the world's biggest teenage pop star can bring. After a year of riding the roller coaster, he shared these wise words with the Associated Press: "Hollywood is...a scary place. There's a lot going on, there's a lot of bad things, but there's also a lot of good things."

Groceries may be a way to do good in one's community, but according to Bieber, they should stay in the struggling old lady's bag or at the food drive. When he was asked recently about meeting fellow pop star Lady Gaga, Bieber could not explain her decision to slip into a meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards or her egg arrival on the red carpet this past Sunday. "She went for a hug [in the meat dress] and I was like, ‘Whoa… let's just hold up on that! You have meat on you!'" he told Chelsea Handler. As for her public Grammys incubation period, Bieber said, "People say it's artistic and stuff. I'm just like, ‘You're an egg!" Maybe she should have gone with a hoodie.
