That means the host nation remains undefeated in opening World Cup matches, with a record of 15-0-5. South Africa took the early lead, despite playing defense most of the first half, when Siphiwe Tshabalala scored after 55 minutes. Rafael Marquez evened the scored for Mexico after 79 minutes, and the score remained there—the closest call being a shot by South Africa’s Katlego Mphela hit the post in the 90th minute of play.
