As Wyclef Jean puts all his effort into promoting his new memoir, Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story, his charity in Haiti has reportedly failed. An article in The New York Times says Jean, who claims that his organization, Yéle, “is Haiti’s greatest asset and ally,” has not commented on the fact that the charity effectively went out of business last month, leaving Haiti with little support. A New York attorney general’s investigation into the charity also revealed financial blunders, and suggests millions in donations for earthquake victims went into Yéle’s offices, employee salaries, consultants’ fees, and projects that never came to fruition.
