Just as the country was touting its role in the drone attack that killed American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, a Yemeni warplane mistakenly bombed its own troops Saturday evening, killing at least 30 in southern Abyan province. The plane targeted an abandoned school in the country, but it was used as a shelter by soldiers of the army's 119th brigade. The soldiers had been fighting militants in the area since May, when Islamists opposing the 33-year-long rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh declared that the province was a separate emirate.
