Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh will return to his country after a yet-to-be-determined recovery period, Yemen’s state news agency reported Tuesday. Saleh was injured on June 4 in the country’s escalating protests, and then transferred to Saudi Arabia for treatment. Saleh was released from the hospital Sunday, and doctors will determine how long he needs to recover before he can return to Yemen. Since Saleh’s departure, Yemeni Vice President Abraduh Mansur Hadi has assumed power in Sanaa, but the opposition has called for the creation of an interim council to prevent Saleh from returning to power. Saleh appeared on television on July 7 for the first time since the assassination attempt, saying “elements of terrorism” had been behind the attack.
