Yemeni Women March for Sanctions

A day after Yemen’s brutal security forces cracked down on antigovernment protesters, shooting down five people—including the first woman killed in the last few months of fighting—Yemeni women are taking to the streets. Undeterred by the indiscriminate shootings, thousands of women hoisted their signs in front of the capital’s Foreign Ministry building, demanding that the United Nations enact sanctions against President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s murderous regime. One female protester told CNN that the recent killing is “a sign that the government security forces will not really stop shooting, even if there are women.”
