Is President Obama destined to join the ranks of the one-termers? According to The New York Times’s math-whiz blogger Nate Silver, that looks to be the case. Relying on a statistical model that considers several different scenarios related to the status of the economy and who the GOP will nominate, Silver determines that “Obama’s position is tenuous enough that it might not be a winnable [election] for him.” Over at Daily Intel, though, Jonathan Chait takes issue with the conclusion: “It’s possible that the unacceptability of the Republican party”—which is polling worse than the president—“will redound to Obama’s benefit.”
