Zimbabwe on Cecil: ‘What Lion?’

Despite the global outcry over an American dentist’s killing of Cecil the Lion, many in Zimbabwe seem unconcerned. When asked for comment on Cecil’s death, acting information minister Prisca Mupfumira asked, “What lion?” The government has yet to issue a formal response. “Why are the Americans more concerned than us?” said Joseph Mabuwa, a father of two who spoke to Reuters. “We never hear them speak out when villagers are killed by lions and elephants in Hwange.”
