After the 9/11 attacks, when airlines began replacing linen tray covers with paper ones, Delta flight attendant Jewel Val Valin decided to provide passengers with crayons to get them "laughing and drawing." It was a way for passengers to relax and reconnect, and to relieve the anxiety of post-9/11 air travel. Since 2001, the flight attendant has amassed nearly 3,500 drawings, and the Palm Springs Air Museum is now displaying the plane doodles. Crayola supplies Val Valin with the crayons, and she hangs the amateur art in the airplane during flights so passengers can admire one another's work.
