On Tuesday, at least seven explosions throughout Baghdad killed more than 50 people and wounded 180 others. They represent the fifth day in a spree of attacks that has killed at least 119 people in Baghdad. This obviously has Iraqis fretting about a return to the sectarian violence that debilitated Iraq between 2005 and 2007. The Associated Press says U.S. and Iraqi officials blame the attacks on “al-Qaida insurgents seizing on gaping security lapses created by the political deadlock that has gripped the country since its March 7 parliamentary election failed to produce a clear winner.”
