We’ve realized every worst-case scenario so far; at this point, we’ll say it’s only a matter of time for this one: BP estimated in an internal-company document that, in the worst-case scenario, 100,000 barrels of oil will leak into the Gulf of Mexico every day. That’s up from BP’s stated estimate of 60,000 barrels a day, though a BP spokesman says the higher number only refers to a scenario in which the blowout preventer is removed from the well, which hasn’t been done yet. Meanwhile, BP says it has now spent $2 billion fighting the oil spill.
