Is this the end for General Stanley McChrystal? Pentagon officials confirm that McChrystal, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, has prepared a letter of resignation in anticipation of his face-to-face meeting with President Obama at the White House Wednesday. Obama refused to discuss the general's future in comments to reporters today, saying only that McChrystal's critical comments in a Rolling Stone interview "showed poor judgment." Earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that “all options are on the table,” and that the White House had summoned McChrystal so they could “see what in the world he was thinking.” Gibbs added that “the magnitude and graveness of this mistake are profound.” Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Tuesday that McChrystal had made a “significant mistake” in mocking the Obama administration in the interview.
