What is going on with Alaska? After Lisa Murkowski, the senior U.S. senator from Alaska, hinted that she may be ditching the Republican ticket for a third-party run should she lose the Republican primary, Joe Miller, who’s ahead of Murkowski by less than 2,000 votes, has apparently compared his competition to a whore. Yes, the Sarah Palin-endorsed Tea Party candidate Miller took to his Twitter to blast Murkowski, tweeting, “What’s the difference between selling out your party’s values and the oldest profession?”— implying prostitution. The tweet was soon deleted, with Miller spokesman Randy DeSoto blaming the tweet on a staffer, and following it up with a tweet saying the hooker reference was aimed at the Libertarian Party. “Please accept my apologies,” he wrote. “Staffer trying to encourage Libertarians not to sell out.” Murkowski’s campaign manager, John Bitney, is not amused. “He just basically called Senator Murkowski a prostitute,” said Bitney. “The man has no place representing Alaska in the U.S. Senate with that kind of attitude.”
