Things for Pakistan are only getting worse, as flood waters have now breached embankments on the Indus River. The government has ordered hundreds of thousands of people residing in cities in the Sindh province (Sujawal and Shahdadkot among them) to evacuate their homes, adding to the six million displaced people so far. The floods have destroyed 7.9 million acres of farm land — 14 percent of the nation's land land under cultivation. Meanwhile, the UN is assessing threats from the Taliban made on foreign aid workers as it hopes more aid money will come in from donors. "We're approaching $1 billion with funds offered or already contributed inside and outside the appeal for this crisis," said the UN's emergency relief co-ordinator, John Holmes. "That's a reasonable response, but we certainly need more."
